River series
In my river series, I attempted to capture Mihaly Csikszemtmihalyi’s concept of ‘flow’. I used inks and paint pens to bend and turn like a river, using black and blue colours to accentuate the blue water and the black river depth. At the time I was interested in Japanese art and incorporated their style of panels and sectioning the line with folding screens and triptych paintings. This led to the five panelled river artwork using a continuous line.
